If you are looking for an enchanting Scottish holiday, do not look beyond Perth! Perth is a small and sweet city nestled on the banks of the River Tay dotted with some of the most stunning scenery of Perthshire. The famous novel of Sir Walter Scott, ‘The Fair Maid of Perth’, is thought to have derived the theme and inspiration from this city and its rich history.

Perth boasts of innumerable bars and cafes, which offers the panoramic view of the Silvery Tay. There are many attractive towns in the area; Perth has a vast array of relaxing bars and cafes, many of which have beautiful views over the majestic river Tay- the longest river in UK at 119 miles! Perth is touted as the adventure hub of Scotland as it spreads out an impressive array of activities such as fishing, white water rafting, canoeing & hill walking. Perth is also famous for its cycling trails and stunning nature spectacles.

Perth has many architectural gems such as the Scone Palace, the ancient crowning site of the Scottish Kings and Glamis Castle among others. Balhousie Castle located at a stone’s throw from the city centre is a brilliant manifestation of the renowned Baronial style and at present houses the famous Black Watch Museum and Art Gallery, where you can rummage through a brilliant collection of sculptures, costumes, China and silver wares.

Stroll through its quaint roads made famous by the footfalls of Mary Queen of Scots and an array of characters like Macbeth. If you are a game for history then you cannot afford to miss out Meigle, famous for its stone inscriptions that are pointers towards the history of the Pictish peoples. The Roman fort and the many edifices would take you to the golden annals of Perth history.

Perth has a rich festival calendar with many red letter days and events cramming it to the rim. Make your pick from Blair Castle International Horse Trials to The Glenfiddich Piping and Fiddling Championships or Perth and Pitlochry Theatres. For anyone with a musical bent, the events at Scotland’s largest music festival, which brings some of the most famous bands from all across the UK is the right spot to be in.

The enchanting parklands of the North and South Inch, bordering the tranquil River Tay are well set for a leisurely evening stroll. Today, these balmy stretches do not leave even a slight hint of their war ravaged gory past. During the battle of the Clans in 1396, Kaye was defeated and history tells that the only surviving member of this clan escaped by swimming across the River Tay, which also finds place in the novel of Sir Walter Scott.

No one can remain grumpy for even a minute here in the city of Perth as it spreads out an extensive banquet smattered with all the essential ingredients of a wholesome picnic. You can cherry pick from historical sites to museums, nature parks to speciality shopping facilities or a pumping nightlife topped off with the best culinary delicacies.
