Lincoln is a renowned city included in the county of Lincolnshire in England and is known as a cathedral city. The council area is identified as ‘Greater Lincoln’ including the neighbouring villages with a population of around 250,000. The city includes many twin towns to its credit that include Port Lincoln, South Australia; Tangshan, China; Radomsko, Poland and most notably Neustadt an der Weinstraße, Germany.

The city has a rich history and there are several archaeological evidences to add merit to that. An Iron Age Settlement of round wooden dwellings was discovered in 1972, which dates back to the 1st century BC. The settlement includes a deep pool in the River Witham situated at the base of a large hill. The Lincoln Castle and the Cathedral were later built there. The origin of the name Lincoln is believed to be evolved during this period. This part of the Britain was occupied by the Romans in AD 48 and after some short interval legionary fortress was built high on a hill that magnificently overlooks the natural lake formed by the widening of the River Witham.

The city has gained an identity as the hub of the religious activities, the bishops of Lincoln remained the main attraction of medieval England. Lincolnshire known as the largest diocese had more monasteries to its credit as compared to the rest of England combined together. The Magna Carta was formulated in 1215. One among the four surviving originals is now well preserved in Lincoln Castle. The city also holds the credit of providing base for many famous bishops.

The city is well known as a tourism base as it boasts countless number of historic buildings including the Castle, the Cathedral and the specialist shops of Bailgate and Steep Hill. The Usher Gallery is yet another attraction with is vast collection. It is located in the recently built venues and it displays more than the 2,000,000 artefacts. Any object excavated by the archaeologist will be added to the Collection, so it is growing all the time. The Lincolnshire Life Museum and the Sir Joseph Banks Conservatory at The Lawn located nearby the Lincoln Castle are the prominent areas that are worth a visit.

If you are looking for a serene atmosphere then the Whisby nature Reserve and the Hartsholme Park are the best places to relax and unwind. If you opt for the lively and active ambiance then go for the Scampton airfield, the base for Red Arrows Jet aerobics team; Waddington airfield and the Cadwell Park the motor racing circuit near Louth.

The pleasant climatic situation woos many tourists to this town during summer season. The annual Christmas Market conducted on the second week of December around the Castle grounds attracts tourists to an equal extent. The market is based on the traditional German style "Weihnachtsmarkt" as seen in several German Cities.

The topography of the place makes it special among rest of the cities. The city is charmingly positioned at the opening in the Lincoln Cliff. The River Witham flows through this landscape informally segmenting Lincoln into two prominent zones called as ‘downhill’ and ‘uphill’. The uphill includes the northern part on the top of the Lincoln Cliff. The downhill areas include the city centre and the neighbouring areas. The unique topography of this place makes it ideal for many activities that bring in lot of fun to your celebration.

The Lincoln Central Station has train connection with Newark-on-Trent, Grimsby, Nottingham, Leicester, and Sheffield. The city also gains easy road transporting links with the other parts of the city that makes it an easily accessible one. There are adequate numbers of comfortable accommodation facilities available for the tourist.
