The Stand

If you thought stand-up comedy only flourished in Edinburgh during the fringe festival, you'd be wrong.

The Stand in Edinburgh, and its sister venue in Glasgow, are Scotland's only full-time comedy venues and you're guaranteed a hilarious time if you choose a night out here.

This makes a great night out for birthday parties, office parties or stag and hen nights, although if you're the shy and retiring type make sure you don't sit at the front and definitely don't tell them you're the stag/hen/birthday girl or boy!

One of the leading comedy clubs in the UK, this is no amateur affair and regularly attracts some of Britain's top stand-up comedians, some of whom you might recognise from TV, to perform on its packed programmes.

The club was started by enthusiasts and this is reflected in the original and cutting edge nature of the comedy here. In the ten years it has been open, big names such as Dylan Moran, Harry Hill and Stewart Lee have all graced the stage.

Open seven nights a week, the venue also has a great restaurant open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, serving fresh home-cooked food.

If you're a particularly large group of 30 or more people, a special cabaret show can even be arranged just for you.
