National Whitewater Centre

Hen and stag parties are all about celebrating that last bit of freedom before plunging into the uncharted depths of marriage and there's not many activities that will make you feel freer than this.

This is one of the most exhilarating trips that money can buy and a great bonding experience as you need a lot of teamwork to navigate these turbulent waters in an inflatable raft. A good sense of humour can help too, as these rapids are cold.

Each raft of between four and seven participants should get around four runs down the steep and rocky 2km course in a two hour session, with each trip offering new challenges as you get more used to the paddling.

And if you've never done it before, not to worry as one of the centre's qualified guides will be on hand to kit you out in wetsuits, give you a full safety briefing and will also accompany you in the raft to help you steer.

If you're after something more independent, the centre also offers a chance to try the white water experience in an orca a two-man inflatable raft with a guide travelling alongside in a kayak.
